The Mercedes 300SL is one of the automotive icons of the German vehicle industry. As a coupé or roadster, the vehicle impresses with its unique silhouette, which is combined with outstanding technology. The coupé in particular is one of the most popular collector’s items, as it is rarer than the roadster. Characterized by its side-opening doors, the Coupé is affectionately known as the “Gullwing”.
Back to the origin
The rear right fender of this Mercedes 300SL was badly damaged in an accident. In order to repair the damage professionally, the vehicle was first mounted on a straightening bench. Using the straightening bench and a straightening press, the outer skin of the gullwing door was reshaped. In the process, it was pulled as far as possible into its original position.
New sheet metal for an old love
The body was precisely formed back in two passes to ensure seamless transitions to the subsequent part replacement. Once the outer skin had been removed, the lower body structure could be aligned. After appropriate preservation, the new mudguard was installed.
Perfect for painting
In order to optimally adjust the fit of the tailgate, seals were inserted during the body work to take into account their effects on the tailgate. The rear lights and doors were also fitted to ensure everything was perfectly adjusted before painting.
