Battersea elevator

A power station for culture

A power station for London

Battersea Power Station is considered a landmark of the English capital London. Completed in 1933, it supplied electricity to the southern part of London for 50 years. After it was taken off the power grid, it stood empty until renovation work began in 2012. When it is completed in 2024, the power station will be the cultural and social hub of the newly resurgent Battersea district.

Sheet metal cladding for elevators

Part of the renovation work included the installation of new elevator systems, which we were able to implement in collaboration with a renowned elevator manufacturer. As part of the project, we supplied the outer domes and inner corners of the elevator cabins for 8 small and 8 large elevators. All components were made of aluminum alloy to keep the weight of the elevators as low as possible.

The production

The inside corners were created using small-step bends. After these were stabilized on the backside, they were sanded and powder-coated. The outer domes were created from several components that were welded together and then painted. During the course of the project, we also took on the construction and assembly of the glass enclosures for 8 small and 4 large elevators.

Shards bring luck

We produced a total of 28 glass frames, as the supplier’s poor glass quality made a second series necessary. The edging frames for the 500 kg glasses were digitized and milled in collaboration with a partner company. We also produced decorative and connecting strips between the glass and the elevator floor to transform the interior cabin into a pleasant ambience.
