Eleven aluminum domes

The subway station is illuminated by eleven dome-shaped lamps, each of which has a diameter of 3.80 meters and was produced by us. The insides of the domes were painted in the colors blue, red and yellow, which creates an extraordinary atmosphere. Each dome is illuminated from the inside with 12 lamps.

220 sheets

Each of the eleven domes consists of 20 sheet metal elements. First, the individual sheets were formed using the Kraftformer. They were then placed on a production jig and welded together. Once all the weld seams had been aligned and ground, we were able to deliver the lamps divided into two halves.

The assembly

The aluminum domes were installed by a partner company and have adorned the Westfriedhof subway station since May 1998. This makes Westfriedhof the first of five subway stations designed by Ingo Maurer.
