Wildspitzbahn

Round shapes against the freezing cold

View over the Wildspitzbahn

The Wildspitzbahn is more than just a cable car – it is the way to a breathtaking adventure in the Zillertal Alps. Since its opening in 2012, it has connected the Hintertux Glacier with the majestic Wildspitze, the highest point in the Zillertal, and opens up access to an incomparable natural paradise. With an impressive altitude difference of 591 meters, the cable car floats up past snow-covered peaks to the mountain station, which sits enthroned at 3440 meters. The mountain station impresses with its unusual architecture, organic shapes and modern materials. It blends seamlessly into the rugged mountain landscape and also offers a spectacular view of the surrounding Alpine panorama.

Challenges and planning

A special feature of the mountain and valley station is the organically curved metal roofing, which integrates seamlessly into the Alpine panorama. The complex, three-dimensionally shaped metal sheets were manufactured by us. Due to the exposed location and the difficult assembly conditions, the highest demands were placed on the dimensional accuracy of the components. To ensure this, a production jig was designed and manufactured for each component on the basis of laser cuts.

The production of the height strikers

With the help of the Kraftformer, we were able to form the aluminum sheets and adapt them to the jigs. Depending on the size of the roof elements, several components were then welded together to form one element and aligned. To ensure a durable and weather-resistant surface, all components were powder-coated before assembly. In this way, we produced a total of 78 components with a total surface area of approx. 250 m².

Special features and installation

In order to keep the weight of the components as low as possible, aluminum was selected as the material and no separate substructure was manufactured. Instead, supports were welded directly to the sheets. This allowed for optimized assembly over a distance of 3,440 meters.
